Despite the primary focus on food, South Side Roots is not just about eating. We have created our space so that people can spend time there whether or not they are enjoying a meal. It is designed as a “Third Place”: a gathering place in the community that is neither work nor home and is open to all who wish to spend time there. Both the cafe and the corridor on the garden level provide areas where people can have a conversation with friends, read a book, pause to check their email, or host a lunchtime meeting. The cafe area is also open from 8-11am and 3-8pm during the week for programming, though availability may be limited. This space is there to be used and shaped by the community that surrounds it.
If you would like to have a larger group for coffee or lunch, tables in the cafe can be moved together to accommodate up to 10-12 people. Some adjustments can also be made for programming in the cafe. Just let us know ahead of time if you would like to use the cafe for something specific and we can reserve a space for your group!
