There are many different ways to engage with South Side Roots as a volunteer, both in the cafe and market as well as with our weekly Community Meal.
Below are the various roles available to volunteers:
Greeter — welcomes our guests and friends to register for a South Side Roots loyalty card and must be able to greet our regulars in a gentle, caring manner and carry a positive attitude while asking people for their personal information.
Cafe Server — serves our customers by taking meals out to the cafe and refilling drinks, engages with and assists guests as necessary, and helps with minor cleaning duties. (16+ years of age)
Market Assistant — stocks produce and grocery items in the market, prepares Grab & Go items, engages with and assists customers as necessary, and helps with minor cleaning duties. (13+ years of age)
Kitchen Prep Team Member — ideal for people with basic knife skills or who have worked in a kitchen before; assists with basic prep work in the kitchen (cutting, dicing and slicing with knives, heating/ cooling prepared food, utilizing kitchen equipment) and helps with minor cleaning. (18+ years of age)
Community Meal Volunteer — serves and engages with guests at this come one, come all family-style meal, and assists with minor cleaning duties. (13+ years of age)
